Ana de Barros, PhD — Managing News Editor: Ana is a postdoctoral researcher at Instituto de Medicina Molecular in Lisbon, Portugal. She graduated with a BS in Genetics from the University of Newcastle and received her Masters in Biomolecular Archaeology from the University of Manchester, England. She later returned to Portugal where she finished her PhD in immunotherapy at the University of Lisbon. Her postdoctoral work is focused on research in cancer and the emerging field of immunotherapy.
Margarida Azevedo — Managing News Editor: Margarida graduated with a BS in Health Sciences from the University of Lisbon and a MSc in Biotechnology from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST-UL). Ines Martins, PhD — Managing News Editor: Inês studied Cell and Molecular Biology at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal. David Boddiger — Columns/News Editor: Dave is an editor and reporter with nearly 20 years of journalism experience in the U.S. and Latin America. He is the former editor-in-chief of The Tico Times in Costa Rica. In 2010, he was awarded the Wake Forest University School of Medicine’s Addiction Studies Program Journalism Award for his coverage of addiction and illicit drug trafficking while reporting for the medical journal The Lancet.

Kevin Schaefer — Senior Community Outreach Director: Kevin started out writing a column for SMA News Today, sharing his perspectives as a person with SMA type 2.
